Is Sustainable Development Important During War?

War disrupts lives, destroys our country and the planet, and creates immense challenges for society, the economy, and the environment. Currently, resources are directed towards defense, but that doesn’t mean the issue of sustainable development can be ignored.

Why does war make achieving the SDGs even more urgent?
▪️ Access to clean water, food, and medicine becomes critically limited in active combat zones.
▪️ War leads to significant environmental disasters: water source contamination, deforestation, mass fires, landmines, and land degradation.
▪️ War exacerbates inequality, poverty, and unemployment, threatening communities' social and economic stability.

Thus, sustainable development is more important than ever today. The SDGs are designed to address these critical issues, which become even more acute in crises, and to build resilient communities – crucial for the country's post-war recovery.
